Recommendation:

  • The 3.2x2.5mm/4pad crystal of the SMD03025/4 series is absolutely the cheapest SMD crystal. In the frequency range of 8 - 12 MHz you should pay attention to the resistors of the SMD03025/4 and check whether the larger 5.0x3.2mm/4pad quartz of the SMD0503/4 series, with the lower resistors in this low frequency spectrum, is not the more sensible solution with regard to the transient response in the circuit. Otherwise, the SMD03025/4 can be used in all applications that require an inexpensive SMD oscillating crystal, even if there is space for a larger housing in the application.
  • It should be mentioned that there is also an Ultrasonic Welding Resistant version of the 3.2x2.5mm/4pad quartz - series SMD03025/4US. Here too, we are the only company in the world that can supply such a product.
  • The 2.0x1.6mm/4pad quartz from the SMD02016/4 series is the second cheapest SMD oscillating quartz and is booming. There is also an Ultrasonic Welding Resistant version of the 2.0x1.6mm/4pad SMD oscillating quartz.
  • The 2.5x2.0mm/4pd crystal is no longer recommended for new developments, but only the SMD02016/4. The SMD02502/4 is included in the top seller list if someone uses this layout and is looking for an inexpensive alternative. The SMD02502/4 is still available for the long term and no EOL is planned.
  • For the 32.768 kHz crystals, we recommend using the M3215RR (50 kOhm max. ESR). Even during the Corona pandemic, we were able to deliver the 3.2x1.5mm/2pad watch quartz within 8 - 10 weeks, or even from stock, unlike our market competitors. This is precisely why many new customers have qualified and ordered the M3215RR, or the version with 70 kOhm ESR of the M3215 series from us. This crystal is still the most cost-effective 32,768 kHz SMD crystal available, with long-term availability and strategic reliability. We are a great supporter of this crystal because it is still a very affordable and extremely reliable top seller. The M3215RR has an ESR of 50 kOhm max. and therefore resonates very well in all applications. It is available with a frequency tolerance of ±10ppm at +25 degrees, standard is ±20ppm.
  • If the M3215RR is too large for your application, we recommend using the M1610 with 32.768 kHz. In any case, not the 2.0x1.2mm/2pad housing. This is because production capacities for the 2.0x1.2mm/2pad housing have been massively reduced worldwide in favor of the M1610 (1.6x1.0mm/2pad). In addition, there is no technical or price advantage between the 2.0x1.2mm/2pad 32.768 kHz crystal and the M1610. Automotive customers in particular are debating which housing to switch to in the future. Our recommendation is quite clear. The M3215RR or M3215, or the M1610 if the M3215RR/M3215 is too large
